I say go with the autoharp. I've heard it derided as the idiot zither, but it's an underappreciated instrument. The Carter family made such nice use of it.
banjo all the way. takes more talent.
i agree with mr. poncho. when i was a kid my mom had an autoharp and it was sooooooo fun to play with. and june cash plays the autoharp. she's awesome.
i'm not sure i have any talent, soooo, autoharp it is!!!! banjo later.
